The group of Prof. Muñiz deals with the discovery of new chemical transformations that provide direct access to molecules that contain nitrogen, which are key in a variety of compounds of biological and pharmaceutical interest. They have designed new hypomorphic iodine monomeric reagents that incorporate unprecedented iodine nitrogen links, resulting in a new enantioselective diaminization methodology. In addition, the group works on the expansion of the concept of halide oxidation chemistry. This research resulted in a series of amine reactions of non-functionalized C-H links catalysed by halides, providing access to nitrogenous aliphatic heterocycles not previously available.
